Learning how to make hot process soap is not difficult. In fact, this ancient soap-making process dates back centuries. The hardest part of making hot process soap is getting it out of the molds. But we’ll get to that later.
Step one. The first step is to gather your equipment and your ingredients. The equipment you will need for this process includes a large saucepan and heat source, stirring rods, a soap mold, and wax paper. A crock pot, double boiler, or microwave-safe container and microwave work very well. For your hot process soap, you will need water, fats, bleach, fragrances, and colorants. To get a list of ingredients and measurements, you will need to find a recipe for hot process soap.
Second step. The second step is to add water to the pot and heat it gently. Add your bleach and let it dissolve. Then add your fatty acids like coconut oil, sesame oil, and shea butter.
Step three. The third step is to let the soap mixture boil and strain until it saponifies. Saponification is complete when soap begins to form inside your tub.
Step oven. After your mixture is finished saponifying, you’ll want to take it out of its heat source and pour it or place it in your lined soap molds. Coated wood soap molds work best for the hot soap process. Let the soap settle and then unmold. At this stage, your soap will be sticky. However, after it dries for three to four weeks, it will dry enough to remove the stickiness from its texture.
