Motorola just accelerated its line of smartphones for the third time in as many years. A lot has happened in the last year for Motorola. The company has gone from being one of the biggest names in mobile phones to being owned by Google and has now been sold to the Chinese computer maker Lenovo. The phones don’t seem to have suffered though, and the Moto G3 is a great upgrade to probably Motorola’s best-selling product in recent years. Lenovo has a history of buying big brands and not tampering with them. They have done nothing to damage the IBM personal computing brand since acquiring it a few years ago, and their ownership of Motorola hasn’t stopped the phone maker from improving its smartphone lineup for 2015.

With the Moto G3, Motorola has once again kept what worked and made the necessary changes to quell criticism and update the phone for 2015. All this while maintaining the mid-range price that made the Moto G a best-seller throughout. the world. In some countries you can even get Moto G3 cases, as well as the metal strip on the back of the phone, in a range of colors, at no additional cost. In the rest of the world, however, black and white are your only option and you’ll have to go for aftermarket Moto G3 cases if you want a bit of customization.

If you get one of these aftermarket G3 cases, you will have a phone that is very well protected not only from bumps, drops and scratches, thanks to the Gorilla Glass on the front of the phone, you will also have a waterproof phone. One of the great novelties incorporated into the Moto G for 2015 is the IPX7 rating. This means that the G3 can withstand immersions in water up to a foot deep for up to half an hour, without biting the dust. While all Motorola phones have always had great resistance to splashes thanks to a nano coating that the company applies to the internals of the devices, the IPX7 rating means you can be shoved into a pool with the phone in your pocket or dropping it into a sink. and still have a working phone.

However, the water resistance and colored Moto G3 cases are not all new for 2015. The new version of the G also has much better cameras, both on the front and on the rear. The front shooter is upgraded to 5 megapixels and the rear camera goes up to 13 megapixels this time. This gives both cameras the ability to shoot full 1080p video, another first for the G. The G3 also has a much better dual-tone flash on the rear which should make for much more enjoyable photos in the dark. These updates along with slightly beefed-up internals and a near-standard version of Android Lollipop should mean that the Moto G is still one of the best sellers, not just in its price range but on all Android phones.
