I’m one of the biggest April Fools fans. Is there a better day than this in the whole year? Yes, I know there is Christmas, Thanksgiving and all that, but I love the idea of setting aside one day a year just to play pranks on others. It has always been a tradition for me to play some of the most creative pranks on the most gullible individuals. These are the kind of people who wake up on April Fools’ day and don’t realize what day it is. I mean they consider it a normal day like yesterday.

Among the days of the innocents that I remember the most is one that took place about twelve years ago. I was a senior in high school and this particular one was a Monday school day. Everyone in the student population was well aware that it was April Fools’ Day and that no one was to be trusted at all. Therefore, the chances of pulling a good prank on any student were very slim. Everyone was on the lookout for lies, even the young ones.

So I sat down to wonder who was the most gullible of all at school. That was when I had such a great idea! Teachers! Obviously, they didn’t pay attention to April Fools’ Day. But how could I play a prank on a teacher? That would have been too daring, but it would surely earn me a point among the students.

It was then that I remembered this rumor among the seniors that Mr. Suelz, the history teacher, and Ms. Morgan, yet another history teacher, were seen passionately kissing in the hallway one Friday night after classes ended and everyone had gone home. My guess was that they had a secret affair between them and that the school administration had no knowledge of it.

That sounded like a good recipe for April Fool’s Day fun. I immediately went to a phone and called the principal’s office.

“Hello. Is this Mr. Butler?”

“Please could you come to the hospital? There has been an emergency. Thank you.”

I hang up and it wasn’t long before Mr. Butler left his office, got into his car, and drove off. She knew it was only a matter of time before he knew it was a joke. So I needed to get on with my plan quickly.

I made my way to the principal’s office, of course not forgetting to lean down when I got to the secretary’s desk so they wouldn’t see me. Did I mention that I am very good at imitating voices? I even think I can be the second Mrs. Doubtfire. Anyway, back to my story. I picked up the phone and sounding exactly like Mr. Butler, I called Mr. Suelz and Ms. Morgan at the office.

You must be thinking that I was very stupid to call them at the office because they would easily recognize me. But the good thing about that office is that it has a huge leather chair that sways from side to side. So instead of looking at the desk, I looked at the wall when they entered.

“Yes Mr. Butler? Why did you want to see us?” I heard Suelz’s baritone voice as soon as they entered.

“How do you two feel about the office romance without drafting official service documents?”

I got straight to the point and I must say it caught them totally off guard due to the pin-drop silence that followed.

“Urghmmhh,” Morgan stuttered. “He, he … he was the one …”

“What! Come on. Give me a break! You’re the one who seduced me for that!” murmured Suelz

The tension that had suddenly built up in them caused them to start arguing among themselves about who was to blame for this. I almost laughed when I heard my two teachers all act scared and argue with each other about who was going to face the consequences.

I knew I was about to laugh out loud and had to fire them by telling them that they had to write an official report on their relationship before facing the consequences. As soon as they left the office, I, too, sneaked out to avoid being seen, and as I was laughing on my way to class, I ran into Miss Morgan coming into the ladies’ room crying.

To cut a long story short, I don’t know what followed after that. But before I am blamed for breaking up a happy couple formed by Cupid, Mr. Suelz and Ms. Morgan are married with two children.

Isn’t April Fools Day just fun?
