Dual core processor has been popular lately due to its efficiency in running multiple applications (multitasking) with ease. Although buying a dual core processor is your own decision, try to avoid Celeron or AMD processors when it comes to a laptop as they are not an option but a compromise.

Operating system

The selection of an operating system for your laptop should be based on your requirements. Some people are comfortable with the Windows operating system, while others are comfortable with Linux. Although Linux is free, you have to pay for the Windows operating system. Your laptop may come with a preinstalled operating system, but they can be reinstalled if you want to change your operating system.

Memory

The amount of memory for your laptop depends solely on the type of work you intend to do on it. For example, if you buy the laptop for movie editing, gaming, or graphic work, you may need a larger amount of RAM. For general purposes, 512 MB of memory should serve this purpose. For a dual core processor, do not consider memory below 1GB.

There should be at least 3 USB ports on a laptop. USB ports are very useful considering the wide range of new electronic devices that need to be connected to the computer. In addition to the USB ports, there should be at least 1 Media Format Card Reader, 1 Fire Wire port, and a VGA out port. You can select either a PC Card slot or an Express Card slot for this purpose.
