Now that the notion of Mercedes Benz as a luxury vehicle has been discarded, we shouldn’t even have to go into the same argument when it comes to BMW. I own a BMW M6 and would by no means consider it in the luxury class. It does not have the weight in terms of price. On top of that, the BMW M6 lacks many refinements found within a Bentley, a Rolls, or a Lambo. It is an exotic car, but not exclusive. You can exchange any of the previously considered cars for multiple copies of an M6. Also, the M6 cuts corners in different areas. For example, the 2007 BMW M6 does not have a front-loading CD changer. Soft-close doors are a must-buy option. Satellite radio is an option that you have to buy. Heated steering wheels, keyless operation, and a host of other options that are standard on a “true” luxury car are additional options you must pay for in a BMW. The M6s do not have backup cameras in their vehicles.

I’m not trying to bother with BMW (because I have one), nor with Mercedes. However, the truth of the matter is that they are not in the same league as what a true luxury car is. If they were, there would be as many Maybachs as Rolls Royce Phantom. Would anyone pay $ 380,000 for a Phantom if a $ 450,000 Maybach were a better, flashier, higher-quality vehicle? Why not go out and buy a BMW 760 if it’s as luxurious as a Bentley Flying Spur? The answer to both questions is obvious. If cars were that good, more people would buy them. But they are not. That’s why Benz sells fewer than 150 Maybachs and SLRs, respectively, each year. Cars in the exact same class outsell them by as much as 50-1 because a Benz or Beamer is not a _________. You fill in the blank.
