Border collies develop the habit of biting from an early age. Just as we like to inspect and touch unfamiliar things, Border Collies explore the world around them using what they can control best: their mouths. They will “taste” different types of material by biting into it and see what happens. When playing with their littermates, border collies learn to limit their biting power during play. If one of the littermates bites too hard, his brother will squeal and refuse to play. In this way, the puppy will learn that it is not acceptable to bite too hard on some things.
If he is removed from his mother’s care too soon, a border collie may not have established that control of his bite and will bite and nip at your hands or everything else around him too forcefully. This can become a particularly bad habit if we mistakenly praise such behavior without knowing it, which many owners already do!
Border collies can chew through your couches, toys, clothes, rugs, and just about any other soft possession you have. They may even try to chew through the wiring behind your TV, so you need to be extra careful to make sure your little canine friend doesn’t get hurt. Toxic chemicals can also pose a hazard, so make sure you don’t have them around while she’s still training.

They love to chew almost anything. It’s completely natural because they stimulate their brains and keep them entertained for hours on end. Imagine how much fun your pup will have chewing on all your belongings in your house? Hope for? Don’t want your pup raiding your house leaving nothing unchewed or unbroken?
