How to get paid to play video games

If you have read my other articles, you will know that I am telling you the true side of being a video game tester because I am tired of reading other articles where people outright lie to sell you some lying scam guides. This is a quote from another game testing article “Video game testers get paid to sit at home and play video games.” This is a lie as stated in my other articles, you are not allowed to talk about what you do at your job, not even with your family.

You sign this dictionary-sized contract to keep company secrets safe, so do you really think they’re going to give you a game that’s not supposed to come out for the next three years? No, they will not do this and you test the games at their test centers. Remember that you MUST have a passion for games because this is a job that requires you to analyze games for several hours and if you get distracted or lose interest you could lose your job.

I advise players that if they really want to have a career in the game, they should start early. Remember that you can start at age 16, so start as early as possible. However, if you are older, it is not too late! The best way to get a video game job is to build a portfolio and I recommend getting short term video game related jobs even if you are working at gamestop. Anything that is relevant should go into your portfolio; Did you win a gaming tournament? Put that there!

It is very important to create a strong portfolio that tells game companies why they should hire you. Remember that you will be competing for this job and 8/10 times your competition will come in with a weak resume and you may not even have a portfolio.
