Going on vacation is something we all look forward to, but it can cause quite a bit of stress in preparation. Here are some quick tips to make the vacation preparation process easier:

o Packing List: Write a general packing list for each family member. Save it as a document on your computer. When you get ready to leave, print them out and hand them out. This way no one will forget toothbrushes or special medications.

o To-Do List – Whenever you’re writing that packing list, write a vacation prep to-do list as well. Include things like “put the newspaper on hold” or “ask the neighbor to feed the fish.” Again, every time he gets ready to leave, he prints this out and checks off the items.

o Contact List: Also keep a vacation contact list on file. Include emergency contact numbers, mailing addresses, etc.

o Preparing for a Big Trip – If you are going on an extended vacation or traveling internationally, there will be more to prepare for. Make a complete list of everything you need to do (passport update, currency exchange, etc.). Open your calendar and break down the items so that you only have a few things to do each week, before your vacation. For example, passport updates need to be arranged 6 months in advance so there is no stress or rush. Money exchange can be done a few weeks in advance so you don’t have to run to the bank the day before you leave. Plan ahead so you are not completely sold out the week of your departure.

Now go ahead, start your vacation with a more relaxed mind. Enjoy!
