When I started my home garden, I realized that there is actually an easy way to make my kids love vegetables and fruits. It was like hitting several birds with a stone because there are many benefits that I got from that; my kids suddenly became a fan of vegetables and fruits, we discovered a great bonding time together, we now spend less on groceries and are confident in the quality of the food we eat every day.

My friend who has her own garden at home was the one who introduced me to this. She gave me the following tips that helped me get started on mine.

1. Make sure the location gets a good amount of sunlight and the soil is fertile.

2. There should be a water supply nearby for the plants need and the water from the hose can reach the furthest plant.

3. Lay out the plot so that the crops are lined up from smallest to tallest to avoid blocking sunlight.

4. Add fertilizers in the soil to make it healthier, it would be best to use organic fertilizers or those found in a compost pit to ensure the safety of the plants.

5. Choose plants that are in season so you don’t wonder why your crops didn’t grow.

6. Harvest fruits or vegetables regularly, the more you do, the more active the plants will be in production.

7. Try other crops or, if space allows, simply add crop varieties each year to maximize your home garden.

I am so glad I listened to her because I am currently enjoying the yield from my home garden. It is really amazing that with such a small effort I can reap so many benefits not only for myself but also for my whole family. I am very grateful to have started my own. It’s been great having fresh vegetables right outside my door and it’s been a fun bonding experience for all of us.
