When applying for a job, you will not be the only applicant. You will be competing for the job with dozens of other qualified candidates. With so many candidates, it’s not unreasonable to fear that your resume will be overlooked or lost in the mix of things. While it would be easy to do this using a fancy font, it’s a very bad idea. Using a fancy font looks unprofessional and can be difficult to read. It may not look the same on your computer either. They may see a completely different font. Instead, use a sans serif font. Another idea is to add a touch of color. Color in small doses can look great. This will get your attention without seeming unprofessional.
· Professional – You don’t want to give potential employers a bad impression by having a resume that looks unprofessional. This means that you need to keep it easily readable and organized. Extravagant fonts, bright colors, or images (or words) that are large, obscene, or vulgar are not allowed. A little clip art that has to do with the job may be appropriate, but for the most part you shouldn’t put any images on your resume. Let the words speak for themselves.
· Impressive – Now that you’ve caught their eye and shown them a professional resume, you need to impress them with what you put on your resume. Keep them interested and involved in you by putting your greatest accomplishments, achievements, and job titles on your resume. This is what will make them want to call you for an interview.
