Updating Kodi

Every now and then, you will see a message appear when you launch kodi. It will always seem like you need to update Kodi, this is common practice with Kodi when a new version of Kodi is released. There is no need to update kodi, newer versions are generally not significantly different, but the instructions below guide you through updating your kodi version.

Note: If your unit is one year old or older, it is best to mail it in for a full reprogram. Also, it is always best to wait for Kodi to update, because many add-ons will take a few weeks to update and will not be compatible with the latest version of Kodi right away.

If your device is running on a version of Kodi prior to 17, these update instructions should not be used as it will erase the settings. These update instructions only apply to drives running on some version of Kodi 17.6 During programming, our devices are patched to protect against security flaws (such as those fixed by kodi version 17.3), so the instructions below are not required for protection, but are provided for those who want to update their device anyway.

These instructions are for updating any version from Kodi 17 to kodi 17.6 ONLY. Do not update beyond Kodi 17.6, Kodi 18 is not a stable version

Note: Kodi 17.5 was released recently, but some users are experiencing crash issues, please do not upgrade to 17.5, until we have fully tested it and confirmed that there are no bugs that need to be fixed. Once it’s safe to update, we’ll say so here.

Go to Settings-Applications-Manage INSTALLED application-Kodi (CLICK ON FORCE STOP)

Then click Back and in the Manage installed applications list, you will see “APP STARTER” Click Start.

Then click “UPDATES”, go to update option for KODI and click “check for update”, if you are running 17 and want to update to a later version of 17, that is ok, but if you update to 18 for example , it will erase all content within Kodi.

Click the button that says Update to the latest version of Kodi, wait for kodi to update, click Install, then click Open

Kodi Backround has changed

Every now and then the AEON NOX wallpaper that we have installed updates itself, when it does, you will have to change its look again, it is very simple to do and rarely happens.

Go to Systems-Interface- Masks- Change it from Confluence to AEON NOX

If for some reason you don’t see AEON Nox as an option, click on get more and then choose AEON NOX Even if you don’t change the background to AEON NOX, the device should work the same, you will just have a different background.

Things you don’t want to do within Kodi

You never want to click Clear Data, it will erase everything installed within Kodi.

You don’t want to click Clear thumbnails within the Raw maintenance application on the Programs tab.

If you are inside the Ares Wizard program, you do not want to install any compilation of the wizard, it will erase your current configuration. You also don’t want to choose the Fresh Start option, it will erase everything installed on kodi

Check the log for more information (error message)

This is a standard message, all it means is that the link you are using is no longer working, you should try a different link when it appears, or try a different plugin if it constantly appears on all the links to choose from.

Correction of “Authorization Required” or “Open Load Torque” message

Some links require you to pair your unit for the link to work. Explained on our video guide page.

Simple fix

Connect your laptop or cell phone to your Wifi

Go to the website listed, it will usually be Openload.co/pair or something like that

Click the video authorization button, follow the instructions on the screen
