In 2006, we bought a large dog. At the request of my youngest, I made sure he started out as a small dog. Needless to say, everyone loved Isabelle when we could carry her. That lasted about a month.

So she was too heavy for any of the kids to lift and she was just fun for Dad. That’s when her wife said maybe we should give it to a good family and find a little dog. Personally, I couldn’t imagine the family (myself) with a small dog. Small dogs are small. After finding a happy home for Isabelle, we set off in search of a tiny, tiny dog (I hope I don’t step on the dog).

As a family, we were quite patient in the search for our new puppy. Me, I was very slow in the whole search process. I wanted a big dog. Of course, some advantages of a small dog include:

• Anyone, even the smallest child, can bring the dog.

• The cleaning task is quite minimal and quick. He used to drive a dump truck.

• Does not shed at all (additional bonus of the Shih Tszu-Poodle mix)

• She thinks he is a big dog.

• You can sleep in any bed and leave room for the children.

• 40 pound bag of dog food lasts over 6 months.

I am sure there are many more.

One day we got a call from my wife’s sister who was going to sell us a puppy for $51. We went out that weekend to see what the puppies were like. They were small!!! The children were very excited. You know a dog is small when your 8-year-old can hold a puppy in each hand. After seeing them boot up and run in the backyard, we settled on the smaller one known as the Taylor.

We took Taylor home that afternoon. Needless to say, he trained very fast. She is quite friendly. All children can carry it around the house. Her full name became Taylor “Tot” Clark, also known as the wonder dog that eats Dorito. That dog loves French fries. I noticed shortly after that she didn’t spill at all. What a great bonus.

From all the experience, it can be said that he is flexible in the search for his pet. Getting a small dog has been great for the family. It’s been fun for everyone even though he drank half of my caramel Frappe’ today.
