Slip Ring Motors IC511

The high-voltage slip ring motor IC511 is used in many applications where large plants are operated: mining, extraction of minerals, metals, cement production and the operation of mills, fans and crushers. In these situations the high starting torque and power range of this motor type are particularly demanded. In addition, a slip-ring induction motor and a ring collector allow very low start-up consumption which in turn reduces mechanical stress at the starting of the driven equipment.

Moreover, the ring collector of the IC511 slip ring motors IC511 is designed to protect the carbon brushes from dust and dirt. This minimizes mechanical stress at the start-up of the machinery and increases the service life of the carbon brushes. The motor is also suitable for continuous operation. This is particularly advantageous in case of abrasion or in the event of sudden load peaks.

In order to meet the individual demands of our customers, MENZEL Elektromotoren specializes in tailoring special designs for different cooling methods and enclosure types. In the IC 511 cooling class we build open-circuit ventilated (IC 01), surface-cooled (IC 411) and pipe-cooled motors as well as squirrel cage motors with air-air heat exchanger (IC 611, IC 616 and IC 666) or with air-water heat exchanger (IC 81 W).

MENZEL Slip Ring Motors IC511

All IC511 three-phase motors are designed to be a complete system. The stator and rotor are precision-molded in one piece to reduce energy loss, increase the quality of the output and improve rigidity. The rotor core is precision brazed to ensure excellent mechanical resistance and good electrical conductivity at the contact points.

The IC511 is also available as an Ex ec (former Ex nA) or Ex tc motor, for use in potentially explosive industrial environments worldwide. This version is equipped with a spark arrestor in the rotor circuit to protect against the ignition of gases, vapours and dust. The insulation is rated up to SIL 3 and the voltage tolerances comply with the applicable standards.

As a result, the IC511 meets all the requirements for safe operation in Zone 2 and Zone 22. MENZEL also has extensive experience in replicating existing drives with a special design – from 100 kW crane motors to mill drives in the megawatt range.
