Or so the police seem to think, anyway. There is an emerging trend of police stopping people based solely on the types of bumper stickers or political posters they have on their vehicle. Now you, too, can be considered a dirty, no-nonsense common criminal for expressing your particular political allegiance in your own car. Here are some prime examples of what I mean:

There was Chip Harrison in Oklahoma City, who was pulled over by police for displaying an anti-Obama sign on his car. As if that wasn’t enough of an insult to the man’s civil rights per se, Chip’s house was later visited by the secret service: they asked questions for half an hour trying to figure out if the guy was a terrorist. Then the “men in black” snooped around Chip’s house for a while, invading the owner’s right to privacy… all because of an anti-Obama poster.

And then there was Rick and Ingrid, the two friends who were pulled over by the Las Vegas police for no apparent reason. The officers asked the couple for identification and asked if they had ever been arrested. After recording his information, the cops proceeded to search the car, something they cannot legally do unless they have a reasonable suspicion that a crime is being committed. But what was the reason cited by the police for searching the car? You guessed it, it was because they had Ron Paul and Infowars stickers on the back of their car.

And then there was the sergeant. Michael Karasek, Denver police officer who threatened to arrest Shasta Bates because she had a “F*** Bush” bumper sticker on her truck. The fact is that it is her constitutional right to say what she wants. When a cop tells you that you have to remove your bumper sticker or you’re going to get arrested… that’s crossing the line.

And then there was Denise Grie a couple of years ago, who was fined $100 for having a bumper sticker that said “BUSHIT.” Just a little clever, IMHO… but whether you think it’s funny or disgusting, it’s certainly not a ticketable offense. When asked about the possibility that the issue is due to the officer’s political party preference, Grie said, “It’s not just a Democrat/Republican issue,” she says. “You all need to go beyond that. It’s my right to speak, and yours.” Well said.

So you can start to see how this sort of thing tends to add up…something to think about if you’re one of the lucky few who so far has a “TheMidnightOwl.com” bumper sticker (fair warning here: they might even call you a bumper sticker terrorist! And now, with the Patriot Act and habeas corpus rescinded (thanks to the Bush regime), the US government can now legally hold you prisoner if you choose to label it a terrorist, which means no chance of parole, no phone call, no other rights, and all without official charges, other than the “we’re protecting the public from terrorists, so we can do whatever we want” nonsense. The laws that give the government this power are on the books as I write this, for those who don’t know yet.To most, it would be quite a stretch for the police to try to lock someone up indefinitely. idly just for a sticker, just knowing that they can do that legally doesn’t really sit well with me. It’s something to keep in mind, for what it’s worth.
