There is only one Smart car engine available in America and it is Daimler’s 1.0L, inline 3-cylinder type. It also has an aluminum engine block and cylinder head with 4 valves per cylinder. Bore is 2.83 inches with a 3.22-inch stroke. This engine is rated at 52 kW or 70 horsepower at 5,800 rpm with a peak torque of 68 foot-pounds at 4,500 rpm. The oil capacity of this engine is 3.5 quarts and there are 4.5 quarts of coolant in its cooling system. Multiport fuel injection is how you deliver the gasoline to the cylinders.

To transfer this power to the rear wheels, a 5-speed dry single-clutch plate automated manual transmission is used.
