With Christmas coming up, there are plenty of great movies out there that can really boost your holiday spirit. Many of us struggle to get into the mood as we get older, but a few of the old classics are all it takes to get that Christmas nostalgia back! We’ve seen them all our lives, but here are some of the best Christmas scenes in Hollywood!

However, with so many options available, from Home Alone to The Muppets, there are a litany of options that make everyone’s Christmas that little bit more enjoyable, but which one is your favourite?

It took us a long time to come up with a list of the five funniest Christmas movies out there, and if you’ve never seen any of these, shame on you!

the nightmare before christmas

Weighing in at number five, this Tim Burton classic is the movie that arguably made Burton the name he is today. Directed by Henry Selick, this classic is about the charming Halloween people trying to take over the holiday festivities. This tends to be everyone’s first choice for the first Christmas movie they see.

Whether it’s because it strays so far from the Holiday tradition or because it’s one of the most diverse Christmas movies, we’re not so sure. The biggest Christmas moment in the movie, though, has to be “What’s This?” moment when all the usual Christmas clichés come to life.

gremlins

Predating its sequel, the first Gremlins was one of the funniest movies of its time, never mind Christmas specifically! In this movie, the protagonists welcome a little Mogwai named Gizmo. Gizmo is simply the cutest thing ever created, but he has a problem: if he eats after midnight, BAD things happen.

Set in your festive postcard town, the Gremlins run rampant and it takes some clever plot twists to stop them – a true classic. If you’ve never seen the Gremlins, you just have to keep an eye on the TV channels between now and Christmas.

elf

Released in 2003, this more modern Christmas classic made Will Ferrell what he is today. Raised as one of Santa’s elves, his sheer stupidity makes the movie a comedy classic as he finds time for all the Christmas traditions we love so much.

The moment when the fantastic Zooey Deschanel leads all of New York in an uplifting rendition of ‘Santa Claus is Coming To Town’ has to be right up there with the most festive moments in cinema!

intransigent

Granted, you’ve replaced Santa with Bruce Willis as a no-nonsense cop and the Elves with a string of Balkan hitmen, but Die Hard is a true Christmas classic. This is one of the most well known movies in the world, if you have never seen the movie that made Bruce Willis into the megastar he is today, then you really need to take a look for yourself!

It’s a wonderful life

This 1946 classic is one of the most genuinely happy movies you’ll ever see. This fable has a slightly more serious backstory than you’d think, when a suicidal man is saved only by the miracles of life itself. Whatever his age, this movie is a defining moment in his movie life and if you’ve never taken the time to see it, you need to fix that now.

This Frank Capra classic is one of the most powerful movies ever made, giving you a genuine appreciation of the powers of Christmas.
