If you’re just starting out at camping, campers are a great way to start. You will find a plentiful inventory of campers on the market due to the economy. This is what to look for in a caravan.

Two types of campers. These days, you’ll see two types of campers, truck and trailer campers, which are now usually called pop-up campers because the top pops up when you expand it. The pop up camper is very practical and economical. And don’t think that pop-up means primitive. Increasingly, you can look to hard-walled walls, a larger refrigerator, and dining inside and out. And you can tow and store them almost anywhere. Something that cannot be said for most RVs. Most truck campers fit in the back of three-quarter to one-ton trucks. They vary in price based on size, accessories, and construction, though, in general, you’ll pay much less than you would for other RVs because you won’t be buying an engine or chassis. And many RVs have equipment similar to what you’d find in a moderately priced RV.

equipment. You’ll want the camper to sleep at least 4, include a dining table (and you should expect it to convert to a bed), an upper bunk, and a queen-size bed above the cabin. Also look for a double sink, a toilet in the back and a shower. The shower will be inside in the higher priced models and outside in the lower priced ones.

Landslides. The latest craze in recreational vehicles of all kinds is the slider. Sliding exits allow travelers to expand the size of the RV quickly and easily, often turning a “hallway” into a nook. Sliding exits are highly controversial. Everybody wants one; no one wants to do the maintenance to keep it from leaking around the seals. If you want an RV with slider exits, be sure to look into awnings for added protection.

often overlooked. If you’re buying used motorhomes for sale, making your good deal great by making sure you get service records. They should at least have receipts for repairs, service work, and possibly routine maintenance.

inspect anyway. Even if the records are spotless, don’t part with your money without an inspection. You’ll save yourself time, money, and headaches by passing lemons instead of fixing them.
