The reason is that the grass structure is quite thin around the bass and if you don’t set yourself far enough away from the bass and cast longer distances, you risk spooking the bass. So it makes sense the further away you are from the bass in this situation, the less responsive the bass will be to your presentations.
2. The Trajectory of the Cast. Wow, I bet you never saw that coming. Many bass anglers rarely consider the actual trajectory of their cast, but talk to an elite bass teacher and he’ll tell you that’s on his mind all the time. It’s one of the most critical aspects of getting a great cast. Thick rods do not lend themselves well to tumbling or casting techniques and will cause you a lot of trouble. You could be sitting far enough back, casting your lures into the sky and still not take a hit. It’s hard to say the exact reason, maybe you think you’re far enough from the bass not to scare you, but you’re not. Maybe the guy you fished at this spot an hour earlier spooked the bass, there are a million reasons so if you don’t get a hit after a few casts, stick it. Let your bait or lure sit there for a few minutes, just in case the bass can think of your presentation before you nail it. After you’re convinced there’s nothing there (or your patience just can’t take it anymore) move the lure slowly, don’t retrieve it, as you’ll not only scare the bass away, but probably get hung up on the rods. then you’re done as dinner.
