The Google Mums is an application which has been made to help parents monitor their children’s internet activity. Designed by a company called Google with the express purpose of allowing parent’s complete access to their children’s internet use, it does exactly that. It works by installing a small application on your computer that continuously monitors all activity made by your children on various social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. This application not only watches but logs in recorded information including visited websites, text sent and received and all search engine used.
The first thing you will notice when you start the application is that you will be given a reference code. Simply inputting the reference code into the Google Mums interface will grant access to your child. From there, you will be able to view all of the activities that your child has been doing online. By clicking on each site, you will be presented with a detailed report of what your child has been doing. Some of the reports are more detailed than others and will usually give you a link to a social media profile which will allow you to see what your child is currently doing.
The reason why Google Mums is referred to as a monitoring tool is because it actually installs a piece of software onto every computer that it detects. Once this piece of software is installed, you will need to allow your child to log into their account. This can be done by clicking” Shares” next to their name in the upper left hand navigation bar and clicking on” permissions”. If you do not allow your child to login you will get an error message.
What Are The Advantages Of The Google Mum Model?
Another advantage is that it can be remotely accessed from any computer. If your child gets onto a computer that isn’t your own, the application will still function. You can also log into the application from any computer as long as your child has access to the internet and a stable wireless connection. Google does not currently have plans to release this application to other platforms, so as long as you have access to a computer with a stable internet connection, you will be able to use Google Mums for whatever you may need to do.
The other main benefit of using Google Mums is that you can monitor how much your child is spending on social networking platforms. They will be able to see how many friends they have made and how many they are getting connected to through their profiles. If there is a high amount of activity, you may wish to limit the number of contacts that they are making. The same goes if your child is connecting with too many people. You can set a limit on how many different accounts they can have logged in to at once. You can also see if they are actually using any of the social networking services, such as MySpace or Facebook.
Google Mums is relatively new, but it has already been generating a lot of interest from parents. The applications are simple and easy to understand. You may think that it will just fall apart when your child starts using it, but most of the time everything runs smoothly. You may have some qualms about turning over the information over to a third party, but the company behind Google Mum has stated that your child will never be able to read your emails or view any messages on your phone.
