Brett Favre is a proven winner and leader at quarterback, his stats and 17 years in the NFL speak for themselves. The season he had last year for the New York Jets shows that he can still perform at a high level. The team Brett Favre wants to play for this year is the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings were good enough to make the playoffs last year despite not having a great quarterback. If the Vikings add Brett Favre to the team, it would make them one of the best teams in the NFL.

Brett Favre is a three-time Associated Press MVP (1995-97). He is a surefire member of the hall of fame and his numbers over the years prove it. He holds virtually all of his NFL career passing records for touchdown passes (464), wins (169), completions (5,720), attempts (9,280) and yards (65,127). Brett also has the longest consecutive game streak for a quarterback (253).

Last year, Brett Favre showed that his skills did not diminish. He made the New York Jets look like Super Bowl contenders for about 3/4 of the season. After eleven games, the team was 8-3 and coming off big wins against the Patriots and Titans. Brett was shooting the ball well and looking his old self during this period of the season. People want to remember that he faded toward the end of the season, but they should remember how well he played most of it. His stats from last year were 522 attempts, 343 completions, 22 touchdowns, 22 interceptions, 3,472 passing yards, 9 wins and he was voted to the Pro Bowl, not bad for any quarterback playing in the NFL at any age.

The Minnesota Vikings for all their quarterback struggles (going from Jackson to Frerotte and back to Jackson) still had a successful season last year. The team managed to win the NFC North Division with a 10-6 record and hosted a playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagels. The team has one of the best defensive units in the NFC and, on offense, has one of the best lines and running back (Adrian Peterson) in the NFL. The only thing the club lacks is a quarterback.

If the Vikings sign Brett Favre, they’d get a leader at quarterback who basically already knows their system. Last year with the Jets, Favre had to learn a whole new system of plays and signals. At first he had trouble learning and getting used to the new system. If he signs with the Vikings, he shouldn’t have this problem, because the Vikings have a system similar to the one he used when he played in Green Bay.

In fact, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell worked with Favre from 2000 to 2005, serving as an offensive assistant (2000-2002) and quarterbacks coach (2003-2005) for the Greenbay Packers. Favre should fit right in working with his old quarterbacks coach. Another key reason signing Favre would make them better is the fact that he won’t have to run the offense himself. He’ll have help on this team, he can pass the ball to Adrian Peterson or pass it to receivers Bernard Berrian and rookie Percy Harvin.

In conclusion, I think Brett Favre is still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. His performance last year showed that he can still play at a high level. I feel like after seeing the Vikings’ success last year, Brett Favre would be the missing piece of the puzzle. If he signs with Minnesota, the Vikings could possibly be representing the NFC in the next Super Bowl.
