With spring in the air, I’ve been busy cleaning and cleaning! Out with the old, in with the new, as they say. Or as I have done, take the old and make it new again!

I love spring! It is a wonderful time of year when nature awakens, birds sing, flowers bloom…

I have started preparing the yard and gardens for the season. Along with that, it was time to clean out the shed, a dreaded task to say the least! But as I started to clean things up and get rid of old things, I found some items that I wanted to refresh and reuse. Suddenly it wasn’t a dreaded task, I was actually having fun and was able to get a little creative!

One of the things I found in the shed was an old garden rake, handle missing! Why did I save that? Who knows… I guess I thought one day I’d put a new handle on it. Instead of throwing it away, I decided to reuse it! I still need to clean and paint it (thinking crazy blue or purple!) but for now I have installed it on the inside of my shed door…from rake to shelf! I’m going to paint it this weekend!!

I also found a garden gnome that had been buried in the corner of the shed, quite unkempt and rough looking. So I cleaned it up and repainted it! Every garden needs a gnome, right?

And of course me and my love of pigs, came across a concrete pig on a swing that I HAD to use! So after a few coats of paint, it looked like new. I showed my husband and he was like, “He could be the Geico Pig, he just needs a pinwheel!” You know the one, right? !!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, after painting his name on the swing set and finding a $1.50 deal at Walgreen’s on a pinwheel, we now have Maxwell ready for the garden! So much fun, the grandkids are going to love it!

My latest project (at least for this blog) was to reuse an old pallet that we had outside. I had seen this online once and thought it was a good idea. My husband thought she was crazy at first I think, but he was pleased and amazed at the results! I turned the old palette into a colorful garden! Here’s a link to ‘Balcony Life’ that showed me how to do it!
