Oh, Ocean City Maryland How much I love you!

It’s a great, albeit busy, place to take your friends and loved ones during the summer months if you live near Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, or the District of Columbia.

The place is always full of good food, entertainment, super hotels, night clubs, and of course the beautiful boardwalk, beach, and surfing.

Here are the top ten things I recommend you do when in Ocean City, Maryland:

1) Surf and swim – the waves are fantastic. Just park your car on any of the many perpendicular side streets that open directly onto the public beach. No entrance fees, nothing. Just dive in.

two) The Ocean City Boardwalk Without a doubt, it must be in the top 10 walking routes in the whole country. It is wide and long and is always full of people young and old strutting around and consuming large amounts of suntan oil and ice cream. Originally built between 1900 and 1915, the boardwalk remains the ideal place after a “hard day” at the beach.

3) Parasailing – Just hook your fall to a fast engine and soar over the Atlantic like a seagull! Take a tandem ride with your loved one and watch the great panorama from a few hundred feet in the air and find out how much fun the birds are having all year long. The city is home to quite a few experienced parasail operators with a good safety record.

4) Jet boats and pontoons They are for the fast, young and furious. Rent a “cigarette boat” from any of several operators and slice through the bright blue waters like a knife through a blue cake. Not recommended for the faint of heart.

5) Salisbury Zoo Near just celebrated its 50th anniversary and is a great place to take the kids. It’s 27 miles west of Ocean City on Route 50. They have bison, jaguars, bald eagles, and enough furry and winged friends to keep our own two-legged wonders happy and quiet for an hour or two.

6) Assateague Island, ahh … very close, where herds of wild horses still roam freely on the beach. What a great place to pitch your tent and spend a night or two in the midst of nature. Ideal for campers and nature lovers, this US national park is very close to Ocean City. It has 350 camps open from April to October.

7) Free concerts on the beach. Visitors in July and August will enjoy this free gift on the beach. The Ocean City Parks and Recreation Department offers tributes to Elvis, Rod Stewart, Jimmy Buffet and many other music greats. Don’t miss the Labor Day weekend concerts.

8) Sunfest It is the most famous festival in the city. It’s a full-scale arts and crafts show, circus entertainment, “Hunt for Hidden Gems in the Sand” contest, and of course great food all rolled into one.

9) Any broker? Seaside 10K is the fantastic 10K Ocean City running race with a beautiful scenic route. Essential to burn all those extra calories that you would pack while eating all those good things on and off the beach.

10) Winterfest of Lights. And who said Ocean City was just for summer fun? Check in on a November, December or January night and you will be amazed to find yourself in the middle of a forest of lights! You will remember the dazzling of tens of thousands of light bulbs that create amazing Christmas arches along the streets of the city for a long time.
